At MAIA AI, we believe your health data is your own. This policy explains how we collect, use, retain, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Data We Collect
We minimize data collection to provide you with the best experience without compromising your identity.
- Device Identifier (Device ID): We use your unique Device ID to save your logs and preferences. No name, email, or phone number is required to use the app.
- Health & Wearable Data: Heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), blood oxygen (SpO2), body temperature, step count, sleep stages, and stress scores collected from connected wearable devices via Google Health Connect (Android) or Apple HealthKit (iOS).
- Health & Cycle Data: Dates of periods, cycle length, and symptoms you log in the tracker.
- Medical Scan Data: Text extracted from prescriptions you scan using our OCR feature, and radiology images you upload for AI analysis.
- Voice Data: Audio recordings captured during AI voice consultations. Audio is processed in real-time for transcription and is not permanently stored.
- Technical Data: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens for notifications and basic crash logs to keep the app running smoothly.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Health Insights: To calculate readiness scores, stress levels, sleep quality, and personalized AI health recommendations based on your wearable data.
- AI Medical Assistance: To provide AI-powered responses to health questions via text and voice consultation.
- Medication Analysis: To provide simplified explanations of scanned prescriptions and medicine information.
- Radiology Analysis: To provide AI-assisted analysis of uploaded X-ray and medical scan images.
- Predictions: To calculate and notify you about upcoming cycles.
- Notifications: To send health reminders and cycle predictions.
- Admin Oversight: Our administrators can view anonymized logs to ensure the AI provides accurate medical summaries and to improve app performance.
3. Google Health Connect & Apple HealthKit
Maia AI integrates with Google Health Connect (Android) and Apple HealthKit (iOS) to read wearable health data.
- We only read health data — we do not write data back to Health Connect or HealthKit.
- Health data read from Health Connect or HealthKit is used solely to provide in-app health insights and AI recommendations to you directly.
- Health data from Health Connect or HealthKit is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and never sold.
- Health data from Health Connect or HealthKit is not used for any purpose other than the features described in this policy.
- You can revoke Health Connect or HealthKit permissions at any time through your phone's Settings → Apps → Maia AI → Permissions.
- Revoking permissions will disable wearable data features but will not affect other app functionality.
This use of health data complies with the Google Health Connect Permissions Policy and Apple HealthKit Guidelines.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Cloud Storage: Your data is stored securely in MongoDB and processed via AWS (Amazon Web Services).
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256).
- No Data Selling: We never sell your health or medical data to third-party advertisers or data brokers.
- Health Connect data is processed on-device where possible and only the derived insights (readiness score, stress score) are synced to our servers — raw wearable readings are not stored on our servers.
5. Data Retention
- Wearable Health Data (HR, HRV, SpO2, Steps, Sleep): Derived scores retained for 24 months. Raw readings are not stored on our servers.
- Health & Cycle Data: Retained for 24 months from the date of last activity, then permanently deleted.
- Medical Scan Data: Retained for 12 months from the scan date, then automatically deleted.
- Radiology Scan Images: Not stored — images are processed in real-time and immediately discarded.
- Voice Audio: Not stored — processed in real-time for transcription only and immediately discarded.
- Device ID & Preferences: Retained for 6 months after last app usage, then automatically deleted.
- Crash Logs: Retained for 90 days, then automatically deleted.
- FCM Tokens: Retained until you uninstall the app or revoke notification permissions.
6. Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your data at any time:
Option 1 — In-App Deletion (Immediate)
- Open Maia AI → Settings → Privacy → "Delete My Data"
- All data permanently deleted within 24 hours
Option 2 — Email Request
- Email: privacy@maiaai.com
- Subject: "Data Deletion Request"
- Include your Device ID (found in Settings → About)
- Completed within 7 business days
After deletion: all personal data is permanently removed, backups purged within 30 days, and you receive a confirmation email.
7. Your Rights & Control
- Access: View your health logs at any time within the app.
- Permissions: Revoke Camera, Microphone, Bluetooth, Health Connect, or Notification permissions at any time through phone Settings.
- Data Portability: Export your cycle and health data from Settings → Export Data.
- Health Connect Control: Manage exactly which health data types Maia AI can read via Android Settings → Health Connect → App Permissions → Maia AI.
8. AI Disclaimer
Maia AI uses advanced AI to analyze health data, prescriptions, radiology images, and provide medical guidance via voice and text. However, Maia AI is an informational tool, not a licensed medical professional. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making any medical decisions. AI-generated insights are for educational purposes only and do not constitute medical diagnosis or treatment.
9. Children's Privacy
Maia AI is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect health data from children under 13.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last Updated" date above.
